In the box:
High strength PETG Focuser Bracket and replacement geared focuser knob with hardware and drive belt. A metal thumbscrew is included to disengage the motor drive from the focuser for manual focusing.
You will need two M4 screws (provided with the USB focuser) to attach the focuser body to the bracket.
Assembly Instructions:
Please see the included images. Assembly is very easy and takes a minute. Use the instructional images on this webpage to assemble the unit. You will need a set of Allen Keys (these are provided with the Altair AAF USB Motor Focuser).
Use instructions:
- Look at the pictures on the web page. Click to enlarge,
- Remove the rubberised grip from the focuser knob. You can gently warm it with a hairdryer and pull it off. Don't overheat it.
- Remove the cover with Altair logo by means of the two screws.
- Press the gear collar over the focuser spindle and tighten the side thumbscrew (highlighted in red in the pictures) This screw can be loosened for manual focusing. Leave about 0.5mm gap between the base and the focuser. No need to overtighten anything.
- Put the upper knurled knob over the focuser spindle and tighten the thumbscrew (highlighted in red in the illustration) can be loosened to allow coarse manual focus without removing the assembly. When you want to engage the motor focus simply tighten the thumbscrew to grip the focuser spindle.
- Place the bracket over the telescope visual back, and clamp it in position by tightening the clamping screw. Place the drive belt over the focuser knob so it engages with the gear part. Place the small gear on the motor focuser shaft and tighten the two screws. Make sure one screw rests on the flat part of the motor focuser spindle.
- Attach the focuser and place the gear within the belt, attach the motor focuser by means of the two screws but leave them loose enough to slide the motor focuser back and forth.
- Then gently pull the motor focuser away from the focus knob to give it some tension. The belt shouldn't be too tight, not too loose. Just tight enough so it doesn't slip. You can test that by rotating the focus knob by hand - if the belt slips tighten it a little and retry. Once the tension is set, tighten the two screws holding the motor focuser in place.
- When the focuser is connected you can route your USB and temperature sensor cables through the cable guides, and screw the outer cover on to keep things neat and tidy.
Please Note: This is a high quality professionally 3D printed product made to order, and can take about 2-3 days to get ready for you.
